ARTIST'S STATEMENT
the result of asking: What If There Were No Why
i sit with my father. we ask each other questions. sometimes i can answer his questions. sometimes i can't. sometimes they make me go way way way out. out there where i have to explore. in my mind; the synapses cross from one side of the universe to the other. and somehow in between the synapses little particles of sound cluster to formulate letters. the letters stack up. all the letters... that are all really sounds... come from those little particles and now i say to myself
what if there were no why.
it makes me giggle.
my father is now a particle. his soul out there floating. maybe making up those sounds that come together now to form letters. to form even longer sounds that we call words.
what if there where no why.
i hear him laugh.
from being a baby he builds blocks with me. the blocks have painted shapes that i come to know as letters. as letters. he makes sounds when he shows me the letters.
and i wonder why.
