| Painting is all about self-portrait; whether I'm painting a tree, someone else's body or me, inescapably I'm in the work on some level. Sometimes the act of standing watch as a painting unfolds is experientially self-revelatory and sometimes it takes time to unravel what is encoded in the images. Sometimes I don't want to see and I struggle. I end up painting over and over using many different approaches to unearth a tiny thread of mneumatic material. - Jennifer, Spring 2009

| "Gnothi Seauton" means know thyself.
During my work on this series I was mining information from disparate sources...so it's represented in many different ways and shapes and colors on several different canvases all of which I call the "Gnothi Seauton" Series. - Jennifer, Spring 2009

Perspicacious was painted on my rooftop terrace in bright afternoon sunlight while my son played his violin. Then at the end it got too windy so we came down to my studio where it was finished. - jlr
