| ENTER the exhibition: what if there were no why |

Hello- Now that you've gotten this far, I assume you either saw my post on http://twitter.com/jleighrice on Stephen Colbert's page or you saw the huge write up on me in Artweek (just kidding, I refused when they called to interview me - I know a sell-out when I see one )
So 1.take my challenge to create drastic change in your life by contemplating the question "what if there were no why" for two weeks. 2.if you've documented your experience, hit the icon to the left to email me at info@handmaidenfilms.com or go take the challenge and then come back click on the icon and email me. 3.Please send jpegs of your results so I can post them here. And also send a signed release in case ArtWeek gets wind of this and wants to do a spread of this contest in an upcoming issue.
My results for having contemplated this life changing question are the jpeg to the left of the colorful found object assemblage toy.
My story: While pondering the question "what if there were no why", I sojourned across the Mojave Desert this past summer in 116° heat with my Rhodesian Ridgeback dog and my 12 year old son. After visiting the Grand Canyon, we headed due south to Sedona and stood at a monumental construction of boulders, at a primal vortex. I'd like to say that's when I had a startling discovery about the question "what if there were no why", but it was when we were headed back up the west coast and traveling through cool, thick fog in Santa Cruz.
Why do I relate these details to you? It's to make the point that despite all the perspiration, inspiration struck in the lushness of a most beautiful vista.
So good luck with your project.
Thanks for joining in the challenge and I look forward to seeing your work!
- Mental Peas, Jennifer

This image is from the world premiere for this piece at TAG Gallery. The lady with the big green ring is in shock over the profundity of the piece. I'm doing my best to calm her and help her find mental/spiritual/philosophical balance after her encounter with the question "what if there were no why". So, participants, BEWARE. This experience may change you irrevocably. - jlr 2009
